The
bento you see in anime and manga often have something
that looks like a stemless cherry in the center of the
rice. That's rice with umeboshi,
umeboshi being a small pickled apricot. ("Umeboshi"
means "dried plum." Don't ask.) The cabbage-wrapped
meatballs were an experiment borne of 1) my taste
for cabbage and beef together and 2) my need to do stuff
with what seemed like an everlasting head of cabbage
in my fridge. I liked the result, and I'll be making
more of them and experimenting with spices.
More steamed zucchini
and grapes, natch. But the grapes are black instead
of red this time!
