I
love good musicals. One that I recently watched with
a friend was Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It's historical fiction about a barber who
killed his patrons, who were then baked into meat pies.
(A Bit of Priest is a song in which Mrs. Lovett,
who does the baking, offers all sorts of pies to Sweeney,
characterizing them according to the original occupations
of the, er, fillings.) So, why not make a bento lunch
inspired by that? Why not indeed! So, here we have some
meat pies - just pork,
as there are certain minor difficulties in making Mrs.
Lovett's authentic recipes. The recipe I used was actually
Russian, not British, but it's close enough for me.
And even though the recipe I used was frustratingly
vague - not saying what to do with some of the ingredients,
and then saying to "bake in a hot oven for 40 minutes"
- what?! - the pies turned out just delicious.
So I packed the pies with steamed broccoli,
and coconut
mochi, and only afterwards did I realize I'd created
another face to stare up at me during lunch. Weird.
Wanna talk
about it?
