Doujinshi commentary: Daichi no Uta (Earth's Song)

Circle:    Japoness Kikaku/Chiaki Akizuki    Daichi no Uta (Earth's Song): Front Cover
Type:   Normal, gags & serious story. 26 pages.
Date:   ?

The serious story at the beginning of this doujinshi looks like an impressionistic sequence in which Zidane thinks about his friends, Garnet especially. After that, this is a gag doujinshi. Zidane ponders the ecological pyramid of Gaia, and wonders what's at the top. (Answer: Quina.) Garnet, Zidane, and Eiko watch from a balcony as Steiner and Beatrix meet in the plaza below. They watch as Steiner nervously gives her a present... and are dismayed when his romantic gift turns out to be stinky gysahl pickles. (Did you know that "pun" is a sound effect indicating a sudden stink? I learned that while translating bits of this.) However, Beatrix likes the pickles as much as Steiner does, so all is well.

The cover art looks really static and not too appealing to me. A pair of frames, a pair of profiles, no action or interaction. Thankfully, the interior art is much more lively. I guess it needs a narrative to make it come alive.

The text contains a few errors. On one page "Dagger" (Daga) is spelled "Taga," and on another "Freya" (Furaiya) is spelled "Fureiya." No, my eagle eye didn't pick this out - it's on a little "Correction and Apology" insert. Heh, it's a big oops to misspell characters' names in fan fiction, but at least they caught the error.

Japoness Kikaku is probably the circle name and Chiaki Akizuki is a person's name, but I'm not 100% sure of that, so I've listed both. I can't tell what the date of this thing is - the publication date in the colophon is "H13.8.10." The information page has the date "H13.7.23." Can anyone tell me what these mean? I guess the last two digits are month and date, but "H13"?
