Doujinshi commentary: Festival

Another doujinshi by Lazies! It's a mix of quite a few Square games - Final Fantasy 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and Tactics; Romancing Saga; Chrono Trigger & Cross; Seiken Densetsu 3, and Bahamut Lagoon. Whew. Out of all that, FF9 does get a decent percentage of the comic. In the first story, Vivi wakes up in the night and hears Zidane singing outside. Zidane's embarrassed at being caught. They talk about Zidane's origin and the red moon. There are also a few pages of four-panel gags in which Vivi is frustrated at every turn by Ruby, Blank, and the rest of the group. (Beef jerky is somehow involved. Uh...)

There are, of course, a lot of stories based on other series. One is a wordless pantomime based on FF7 which comes across nicely. (It involves Cloud, an injured bird, and... a girl with spirally hair. I haven't played the game yet, so I don't know her name.) I've never seen Bahamut Lagoon - was it ever released in the US? - but the artwork on the dragon fascinates me. Alas, the dragon's shaded very darkly, so it does not scan well at all.

As usual with Lazies' doujinshi, I love the artwork. It's professional-looking and very expressive. Vivi is cute without being goofy or looking like the final part of a Matrioshka doll set. The characters are lively but do not "pose for the camera" all the time. Um... I like this one, okay?
